Wymondham College

As I have pledged on each of the four election nights on which I’ve been honoured to be elected, I will always do my best to represent EVERYONE in Mid Norfolk – not just the people who voted for me.

I take that pledge incredibly seriously, and that’s why I was delighted to continue my regular schedule of constituency school visits again this past Friday – this time visiting Wymondham College.

Visiting alongside local councillor Richard Elliott, it was a pleasure to participate in a ‘Question Time’ style event with a number of the school’s politics students, answering questions on the issues that matter to them most. I also appreciated the chance to take part in a podcast interview with members of the school Politics Society.

If YOU are a school in Mid Norfolk that would be interested in having me visit, or simply need my help, please do get in touch via george.freeman.mp@parliament.uk . I’d be delighted to come and speak with you all.

Dereham Supermarket Surgery

An MP’s first duty is to their constituency. I believe it’s so important for me, as YOUR elected representative, to be out and about and accessible, to listen to and present YOU! And not just at election times!

That’s why, in addition to the 500+ casework emails, letters and telephone calls I receive each week, as well as my various campaign work, I run a regular programme of Supermarket and Community Surgeries here in Mid Norfolk – moving them around the constituency to make it as easy as possible for people to come and see me.

This past Friday, I was delighted to hold my latest Supermarket Surgery at Dereham Morrisons – where I met dozens of constituents, discussing a range of specific casework matters and/or wider policy topics on issues like NHS dentists, GP appointments, Highways issues, Child Maintenance and SEND support for children and vulnerable adults.

I was delighted to be joined by a number of local councillors as well, including Cllr Linda Monument (District Councillor for Dereham Neatherd) and Cllr Philip Duigan (District Councillor for Dereham Toftwood and County Councillor for Dereham South).

Engagement with my constituents is such a vital part of my job and I relish the chance to have YOU come along and ‘bend my ear’.

If YOU would like to come along and informally bend my ear at one of my upcoming surgeries, please do contact me at george.freeman.mp@parliament.uk

Or if YOU would just like some help with an issue, or to make me aware of a policy concern, please do just send over your comments via email for me to pick up too.

Dereham Ukraine Aid Centre Peace Tree

12 months ago the Kremlin war machine launched its brutal attack on Ukraine.

That’s why I welcomed the chance to visit the Dereham Ukraine Aid Centre this past Friday to meet with Ukrainians that have found refuge in the town, as well as the committed network of volunteers that offer them support.

Gathered at Ellenor Fenn Garden, the Ukraine Aid Centre planted a peace tree to mark the one year anniversary of the invasion, with a poem being read out by the Centre’s co-founder Leanne Jarman and a small plaque being installed alongside the tree.

The defiance, courage and patriotism of the Ukrainian people and their president in the face of Russia’s shocking, disgraceful and barbaric aggression is truly inspiring, as is the deep and strong support of the British people for Ukraine. Here in Mid Norfolk we have seen dozens of families offer shelter to Ukrainians in their own homes, as well as the incredible work of the Ukraine Aid Centre and the many donations made to those still living in or fleeing Ukraine itself, including the two lorry loads organised by Dereham’s Railway Tavern pub.

Rest assured, I remain committed to doing what I can to support the Centre and those Ukrainians living here in Mid Norfolk.

Climate Hope Acton In Norfolk – Cross-Party Panel Event

Having grown up on my stepdad’s farm, previously worked as Parliamentary Officer for the NFU and now represented a largely rural constituency for almost thirteen years, I have always had a deep to the environment. Many of my hobbies embrace the outdoors, including sailing and walking, and I have always been a major advocate of the Road to Net Zero, highlighting the frontline role that our region can have, and already is having, in the ‘Green Revolution’ that will help us tackle carbon emissions and embrace a cleaner, greener, healthier model of life.

That’s why I was delighted to be approached by Climate Hope Action In Norfolk with the opportunity to participate in a cross-party panel event titled ‘Climate change is here – what now?’ – which is taking place THIS Friday (24th February 2023) in Wymondham.

Full details are in the flyer below – and having been involved in or visited a variety of environmental projects locally, and actively raised a number of ‘green’ issues in Westminster with ministers and officials, I’m very much looking forward to playing an active part in the local conversation this Friday.

To learn more about my work on Net Zero and the environment in the meantime, please visit my campaign page here.
