Yesterday’s Budget 2024 had some important announcements for Mid Norfolk and our area more widely — whilst being responsible with taxpayer’s money.
While the Dental Recovery Plan is good news in the long term, we need to get more money to the NHS dental frontline in Norfolk now. That’s why I raised the matter with the Secretary of State this week.
If people can’t afford to pay their energy bills, they are pushed towards homelessness – which is why I’m working with partners to lobby the Chancellor for additional targeted rural support in today’s Budget.
So, as we build up the Budget, my message to the Chancellor is very clear. Rural areas face a cost of living crisis because of the cost of energy in the last two years. See my campaign update here.
35 years ago when I worked at the NFU, the mad EU Common Agricultural Policy was generating huge surpluses of unwanted food and was calling for a switch to subsidise lower production.
Rural areas are particularly vulnerable to high energy costs. It’s vital councils on the frontline of those costs have the funding and support they need to tackle key issues like homelessness.
It is vital that local councils have the resources they need to effectively fund and deliver SEND support in our local schools – which is why I have added my voice to calls ahead of this week’s Budget for greater funding and support.
