With 136 growers in Mid Norfolk, I was pleased to visit TH Scott and Son sugar beet farm in Beeston this past Friday.

I met with growers and representatives of British Sugar to discuss the industry, as well as its relationship to Mid Norfolk and to discuss any potential impacts of Brexit.

Mid Norfolk Stats on Sugar Beet:
⦁ Around 141,000 tonnes of sugar beet grown in the constituency
⦁ This equates to 22,000 tonnes of sugar
⦁ In terms of 1kg bags this would be 22 million! Although in reality the sugar from Mid Norfolk will be packed into industrial size bags up to 25kg or 50kg
⦁ The sugar beet from Mid Norfolk is sent for processing at the Wissington and Cantley factories
