Wymondham Post Office

Brexit is important but so is the plight of our Town Centres and High Streets. That’s why I was deeply concerned to hear the news that the town centre branch of the Post Office is set to close.

After being contacted by a number of concerned constituents on this matter I wrote to the Post Office Ltd earlier in the year asking for an explanation as to the reason for the closure and assurances that alternative premises would be found.

The Post Office Ltd have confirmed that the current Postmaster has given notice of their intention to close One Stop on Market Street, which will, as a result, lead to the closure of the Post Office. This is scheduled to occur in August.

I have been assured that the Post Office Ltd are actively engaging with local retailers to assess whether any are interested in becoming the replacement Postmaster and they are also advertising the opportunity on their 'Run a Post Office' website. I would encourage any business that might be interested in taking on the branch to contact them to discuss the opportunity further. With August approaching, I have written again to contacts at the Post Office Ltd asking for a further update and a predicted timescale for services to resume post-August.

If you would like to share with me your personal views about this matter, or to signal your support and be kept up-to-date please do email me at: george.freeman.mp@parliament.uk

Rest assured, I shall continue to monitor this issue closely.
