Speaking up for improvements in disabled access to our stations

Today in Parliament I raised the issue of access for the disabled to Wymondham station. While we have done much as a country to reach out to people with disabilities, we need to go further when it comes to access to transport. Railway stations are the hubs of our communities and need to be properly accessible to all.

My recent submission to the Wymondham Area Action Plan centred on a renewed role for the railway station as a hub for tourists, local businesses and commuters. Whilst car use is obviously essential in rural areas like this, it is clear that levels of congestion and delay from ever rising car use are not sustainable or desirable, and that a genuinely sustainable model of development needs to make great use of public transport, and in particular the fast growing Norwich- Cambridge line.

The upgrading of our stations is central to the improvement of our local rail infrastructure. To achieve this we need to show public support. That’s why I launched the online Cambridge to Norwich Rail Survey. If you haven’t already filled it in please do so at www.georgefreeman.co.uk/survey and please forward this link on to your contacts. These improvements can have a real impact on our local services and infrastructure so please take a few moments to get involved and have your say.
