On Friday 31st May, I attended the Royal British Legion Commemoration Ceremony outside St Andrew’s Church in Hingham. Hingham and Rocklands Royal British Legion had raised money for two new benches outside the church, in dedication to those lost in action.

The benches were dedicated to mark the 60th anniversary of the Queen’s Coronation; they are placed beside a memorial to those killed in the First and Second World Wars and a USAF’s 452nd Bombardment Group plaque. This highlights our areas long lasting military connection with the British Army, Royal Navy, Royal Air force and the American Military.

Events like this give us all a chance to remember those who have made the ultimate sacrifice to protect our way of life. With next year being the centenary of the Great War, we need to use this opportunity to help the younger generations to get a better understanding of the sacrifices made throughout history. I shall be supporting numerous events and activities in our area next year, to make sure that the legacy of those men and women who have gone over the top and made the ultimate sacrifice to protect our way of life does not fade with time.
