Roads Minister visits A47

Today I accompanied Stephen Hammond, the Roads Minister, on a tour of the A47 having invited him on behalf of all Norfolk MPs to see for himself the economic and road safety concerns that the A47 is causing.

The groundbreaking campaign from the A47 Alliance and Norfolk MPs has highlighted the opportunity to transform the 105 miles of the A47 into a truly strategic national and international link, linking the East Anglia region to central and northern Europe and to the midlands and the north of England, and linking regional clusters—Cambridge, Norwich, Yarmouth and Ipswich—of new business growth. In addition, it has highlighted severe safety concerns with the A47, the site of numerous accidents in recent years.

I have long campaigned for funding to improve this road because it is one of the most important arterial routes in our region and collisions on this road happen far too often. Today was a great step forward.
