Planning - Dereham

I was shocked to hear that the application for 255 homes on land east of Yaxham Road/south of Dumpling Green in Dereham was being heard at today’s Planning Committee hearing – despite the fact that the public consultation did not in fact finish until this coming Friday (four days later).

That’s why, last week, I wrote to Breckland to criticise CAPITA’s decision to proceed in this manner (see the letter below).

For too long, aggressive out of town developers have sought to bank land permissions so as to force through often inappropriate and unsustainable large-scale developments in our towns and villages elsewhere. As a result, public trust in our planning system is at an all-time low.

While I continue to lobby in Government for reforms to the NPPF and, in particular, the Five Year Housing Land Supply Rules, I am determined to do what I can to maintain public trust here locally in Mid Norfolk.

Given the concerns being expressed locally about this application, I had to make my views heard therefore – and I am pleased that the decision was taken today to defer this application so that further consideration can be given to the heavy traffic implications that could be involved.
