New hope for Ely Junction

Making sure our area has the modern transport infrastructure we need has been one of my central missions over the last five years.

That’s why I’m delighted we secured the dualling of the A11 and £300m for the dualling of the A47 in the last Parliament, and why I have been working with Ministers and fellow Norfolk MPs to secure further funding for our rail network and train stations over the next five years.

The recent news from Network Rail that long awaited upgrades to Ely Junction have been delayed by several years is frustrating. That’s why I went, with the other Eastern region MPs, to press the case for bringing the work forward. This junction is the critical bottleneck holding back the vital Norwich to Cambridge to Stansted line which could create thousands of jobs in rural Norfolk.

I am determined that we get a more frequent service through to the Eastern region, and I will continue to bring pressure on the agencies over the coming months.
