Mid Norfolk MP George Freeman has today welcomed a major £26m expansion of Norwich Research Park which came before the SNDC planning committee today.

In welcoming the news, Mr Freeman, newly elected after a 15 year career helping to set up innovative new businesses in the Eastern Region, appointed Government Adviser on Life Sciences by the Prime Minister in 2011 and a strong advocate of the importance of the Norwich-Cambridge Innovation Corridor, has today stressed why good planning is vital to the success of Norwich Research Park’s long term growth:

George said:
“The Norwich Research Park is increasingly being recognised around the world as a unique hub of world class science in the ‘Life Sciences’: Food, Medicine and Cleantech – the fastest growing markets around the world. After a 15 year career in the Life Science sector helping to start new businesses, before becoming an MP, I know firsthand the potential of the NRP to drive new business start-ups, and create local jobs. You only have to look at the Cambridge phenomenon to see the long term potential for our economy.

“World class facilities, entrepreneurs and companies need world class planning, which is why I welcome the work SNDC and partner agencies are doing to plan the NRP growth. It is vital that we plan for the long term growth of the NRP and South Norwich area in a way which is attractive and retains our high quality landscape and heritage. With fast rail, broadband, bike and bus links and green spaces the development of the NRP can help power a rural renaissance of an innovation economy in Norfolk based on small companies. The growth of the NRP can help revitalise villages and bring prosperity and opportunities to Norfolk.”
