Today I am launching Patients4Data to campaign for the life-saving effects of patient data in driving up accountability, allowing groundbreaking medical research and empowering the patient revolution.

Patient data is central to 21st Century Medicine – in 3 key areas:

  • Research: where the breakdown of the Big Pharma ‘Blockbuster’ model of drug discovery is driving new ‘Translational’ charity and patient-centred research around patients and their data

  • Empowerment: the Data revolution opens up a new Dawn of Empowerment, in which medicine goes from being something done TO you by Government, to something patients take much more responsibility for.

  • Accountability: accelerating the transparency revolution in which health outcomes across the NHS are more visible.

The campaign is supporting my 10 Minute Rule Bill setting out a new set of Patient Rights so that patients have much easier access to their own data (abolishing charges, for instance), and be encouraged to use it as 21st century healthcare citizens to drive research, choice and accountability. I’m also calling for a new Duty of Care on NHS and Care providers to properly update patient records.

The Bill has its debate on Thursday 27th February and is supported by over 70 medical research charities.

Patients4Data puts patients at the heart of the system where they belong: Your NHS, Your Data.
