Today I spoke at a Policy Exchange event on the future of the global economy at the launch of their new publication The Global Economy: Prospects for growth and assessing the UK’s position which I have contributed to.

I spoke about the macroeconomic and geopolitical changes we are seeing all around us, and how the UK can see the rise of the East as a major opportunity for our exports in sectors like healthcare, energy and agricultural technology.

I also spoke about my recent trip to the Philippines as the Prime Minister’s UK Trade Envoy and seeing first-hand the scale of these markets for Western technology in life sciences over the next twenty years for technologies developed in Cambridge, Norwich and London. As I say in the essay, to fully realise this opportunity we need to embrace the idea of a true Innovation Economy in the public and the private sector.
