As feed prices increase, UK pig farmers are struggling, losing about £10 on every pig they raise. At this time of uncertainty, we need to stick with our British pig farmers. That is why I am supporting the Red Tractor Farmers Roadshow that will be touring the country between 12th and 22nd of November, calling for support from the British public - and handing out bacon or sausage sandwiches as a big thank you! It was also great to see Heather Jenkins, the current Director of Buying for Meat, Poultry, Fish Frozen and Dairy at Waitrose, be awarded the 2012 David Black Award yesterday for her fantastic work in transforming British pork into a sustainable, high-quality and aspirational food. We need to support and celebrate our UK pig farmers, and I will continue to look at what can be done to keep our pig and pork industry sector globally competitive.
