Access to Wymondham Railway Station

I have long campaigned for improvements to Norfolk (and the East)’s railway infrastructure. It is vital that the region has the rail network required to ensure it truly fulfils its economic potential in the 21st century, and that commuters have the reliable and efficient services they need.

A basic part of this is ensuring that EVERYONE has access to our railway stations, and for too long those who are disabled, or with bicycles or prams, have struggled to access Platform 2 of Wymondham Station. Many have to travel to Norwich or Attleborough to use the disabled facilities there in order for them to be able to switch sides and continue with their journeys. This is clearly unacceptable in 2018.

Having previously held a site visit with the relevant parties, and been disappointed with the progress that has since been made, I have convened a roundtable with representatives of Network Rail, Abellio Greater Anglia and South Norfolk Council officials – as well as the local District and County Councillors and the Mayor of Wymondham Town Council.

The roundtable will take place in March, and I shall put firm pressure on the parties involved to work together and come up with a solution to this very important issue as soon as possible.

I look forward to updating my constituents following the roundtable – hopefully with positive news.
