18 September 2018

Everyone deserves the opportunity to get on and thrive in the world of work, and so it is imperative that we all work together to give our youngsters the chance to develop the skills they need to get into employment.

That is why I, back in April, I teamed up with the local Department for Work and Pensions, and my fellow MPs Elizabeth Truss and Sir Henry Bellingham, to launch jobs initiatives in our local areas. Elizabeth and I launched Breckland for Jobs at events in Thetford and Dereham respectively, while Henry launched West Norfolk for Jobs in King’s Lynn.

The launches were tremendous successes with hundreds of employers attending and pledging their support. Combined with the programme of support that has been compiled by the local DWP, the initiative has already made great strides towards our goal of halving youth unemployment in the Breckland area.

We are not stopping there however and I would like to invite any interested businesses (no matter how big or small) to attend:

 Young Persons Market Place

On Friday 12th October 2018 at 9.00am to 1.00pm

Charles Burrell Centre, Staniforth Road, Thetford, IP24 3LH.

The local DWP have organised the event in collaboration with Norfolk County Council’s Education and Training Department and Breckland Council - to bring 16 to 24 year olds together with businesses in the area. This would be a perfect opportunity for you to find out more about how Breckland for Jobs works (particularly how the local DWP work with unemployed youngsters to equip them with the skills required to help them succeed in the workplace) and also to showcase any apprenticeship positions you may have available or indeed any Christmas vacancies.

If you are interested in this event or would like any further information please RSVP to Nikki David at nikki.david@dwp.gsi.gov.uk by Wednesday 26th September.
