On Friday, whilst speaking alongside the Bishop of Norwich and others at the Coalition for Global Prosperity event “Tackling the refugee crisis, why does Syria matter for Norfolk?”, I was informed of a horrific case concerning an Albanian asylum seeker, and her daughter, who are facing deportation – and the potential of becoming victims of an “honour killing”.

Norfolk has a long and rich tradition of providing help and support to those fleeing persecution and conflict in other countries, and that’s why, over the past few days, I have been working closely with the Labour MP for Norwich South, Clive Lewis, and the Conservative MP for South Norfolk, Richard Bacon, to raise this case with Ministers at the Home Office.

Today, Richard Bacon spoke in PMQs to further highlight this issue we’ve all been working on, and I am delighted that the Home Secretary and Minister of State for Immigration will be meeting with us all to discuss the matter in depth over the next twenty four hours.
