Disability Network Norfolk Group - Update

How we care for our most vulnerable people is an important marker by which our society can, and should, be judged.

That’s why I was delighted to join representatives of the Disability Network Norfolk Group once again on Friday, alongside Chloe Smith MP (Minister of State for Disabled People, Health and Work), Cllr Andrew Proctor (Leader of Norfolk County Council) and the excellent NCC Adult Services team, as we continue the vitally important conversation around how best we can support disabled working age adults and their families in the county.

Over the past year, I have written to APPGs and Select Committees, raised key issues like the Minimum Income Guarantee with Ministers and officials and contacted the CQC about matters like the ‘Do Not Resuscitate’ controversy – while NCC and the DNNG themselves have also lobbied hard for meaningful improvements.

Much good work has been achieved as a result – with improvements to the MIG for example. There remains much more still to do however and Chloe Smith’s recent appointment as Minister of State for Disabled People, Health and Work is a welcome boost.

I look forward to continuing to support this work in the weeks and months ahead.
