Robert Kett School Road Safety

Safety outside our schools is of the utmost importance to us all. Whether walking, cycling or in a vehicle, children and families should feel safe at school pick up and drop off times.

That’s why I have worked closely with local councillors across Mid Norfolk over the years on this issue - most recently around the Robert Kett Primary School in Wymondham, who I am delighted to hear are taking part in a trial of temporary road closures at drop off and pick up times during term aimed at boosting safety. Norfolk County Council will be working very closely with schools, residents, and local businesses on this project, with careful planning taking place as part of the School Streets scheme to ensure that any displaced traffic can adequately be accommodated elsewhere on the surrounding network.

The trial will be delivered on the ground by volunteer marshals who will operate the road closures in accordance with training from Norfolk County Council.

The programme should benefit children’s health and reduce air pollution and reduce reliance on cars too.

To stay up to date with my work on this issue, please do check my website for further web stories in the weeks ahead.
