Further to my offer to chair a meeting between the ICB and the landlord of the Toftwood Surgery, I am pleased to report back that it was a positive meeting. A number of things were discussed in relation to the building and the lease. The surgery has been in existence since the late 1990s, and it will be a sad day for residents to think that its days may now be numbered.
It is possible that an agreement could be made – but this will now be up to both parties to negotiate over the course of the next week. Based on what was said, the discussions were positive, productive and if both parties get their heads together then there is every chance.
I have arranged another meeting next week, which I again have offered to chair – to see where both parties are at.
It is essential that Toftwood and Dereham South have access to a local doctor’s surgery. As the town continues to grow with new housing coming – we need more GP practices – not less. If an agreement cannot be reached – then it will be my focus as your Member of Parliament to ensure that an alternative site is found in the south of the town as soon as possible.
Thank you to all of you who have written to me on this matter – it helps me make the case on your behalf. I have made clear to the ICB that they must listen to all of you who fed into the consultation and who attended the recent events in Toftwood and at Dereham Memorial Hall.
I hope to update you later next week.
