Superfast Broadband

The improvement of superfast broadband services in our area has been one of my central missions since becoming MP for Mid Norfolk back in 2010, and it continues to be an area I focus on.

That’s why, I was pleased to see the new figures from the House of Commons library which show that the average download speed in my area is now 24.9Mbps, and rising.

This follows on from my meeting last year with the then Minister for Digital and Culture, the Rt Hon Matt Hancock MP, to advocate greater investment into broadband in our area - and I was pleased that an additional £7million was subsequently committed to just that, taking superfast broadband coverage in Norfolk up from 87% to 95% by 2020.

These new figures are a positive step forward, and show the benefits of this investment for the area. However, I am, of course, committed to continuing my efforts to get total coverage as soon as possible to ensure that Mid Norfolk has the infrastructure and services it needs to truly thrive in the 21st century.
