Old Buckenham is one of the most picturesque villages in Mid Norfolk – with great pubs, a vibrant public airfield and excellent village shops and schools.

Close to the rapidly expanding town of Attleborough, and having welcomed a fourth school (the outstanding Chapel Green School) eighteen months ago, Old Buckenham is a key local centre – and it is essential that it retains its sense of self AND that the residents, and most importantly the children, can safely cross the increasingly busy B1077 that runs through the village.

That’s why I was delighted, back in 2017, to meet with representatives of Old Buckenham Parish Council, local councillors and staff from Norfolk County Council to discuss the ongoing campaign to secure a new crossing for pedestrians across this road.

Despite a backdrop of budget constraints, all of us have worked together to successfully design and secure the funding for a new Puffin crossing – with work beginning next week. Construction should take five weeks to be completed and the new crossing should be ready ahead of the new school term in September.

This is a fantastic example of all levels of government working together effectively to deliver a much needed local improvement and I am very much looking forward to seeing the completed crossing in use in the very near future.
