Heritage railways offer a wide range of diverse opportunities for local communities through volunteering and employment, helping to attract thousands of visitors and spreading prosperity to staff, suppliers and other local businesses in their area. They also preserve incredible historic assets and services so that future generations can learn about and enjoy them.

That’s why I have always been a strong supporter of the Mid Norfolk Railway – and why I am delighted to be supporting the #LoveYourRailway campaign this summer.

#LoveYourRailway is a six-week nationwide social media / PR campaign across the summer holidays that aims to promote the important work heritage railways do with regards to conservation, education and research, inspiring visitors and supporters and showing why they do what they do.

I am looking forward to visiting the MNR again later this summer and am immensely proud that we have such a wonderful local tourist asset right at our heart.
