Following my other efforts in recent months to help Dereham councillors and residents concerned about the proposed Orbit Homes application for up to 284 homes on land off Greenfields Road in Dereham, I wrote to Breckland Council this past Friday to reiterate my concerns about the development (see below).

My letter was read out in support of the local community at yesterday’s Planning Committee hearing and I am pleased to report that the application was not granted permission.

Instead, the Planning Committee have deferred the application so that Orbit can re-engineer the scheme – in order to be make it more acceptable to the local community.

Planning Committee Chairman, Cllr Nigel Wilkin, told Orbit: “Work with the community. This will always be Orbit’s development and if you work with your community and get it right you will be praised for it.”

I remain committed to supporting the local community to help achieve a resolution that works for them.
