Great to host the 50th Anniversary of District Councils with the Leader of Breckland Council and Chairman of the District Councils' Network - Cllr Sam Chapman-Allen. 

Local government plays a vital role in all our residents' lives. It proves time and again that is often more efficient and effective than the broken machine that is Whitehall. It also is in touch with people's lives far more than London could ever be. 

Elected local councillors work incredibly hard to deliver crucial local services - proud to have an extremely good working relationship in Mid Norfolk with both of my District Councils - Breckland and South Norfolk. 

It's time for a major devolution of powers from Whitehall to local communities. I will be making representations over the coming weeks to this effect.
