Tackling Domestic Abuse and Violence in Norfolk

Domestic violence and abuse skyrocketed during the Covid lockdowns – with Norfolk alone seeing a 40% increase. Affecting both men and women, as well as people of all ages, 1 in 3 women and 1 in 6 men will experience domestic violence and abuse in their lifetime.

Just one case is one too many.

Having seen the effects of domestic abuse in my own family as a youngster, I know first-hand that it doesn’t just scar the immediate victims: it triggers a cycle of downstream PTSD, child trauma and emotional damage for many of their family and friends.

That’s why, throughout my time as an MP, I have always looked to stand up and speak out against this awful scourge in our society – supporting local charities, support groups and others, as well as raising the issue in Parliament with Ministers and officials.
