Wymondham Post Office

5th September 2019

As I have said previously, Brexit is important but so is the plight of our Town Centres and High Streets. That’s why I was deeply concerned to hear the news that the town centre branch of the Post Office was set to close.

As a result of the retailer who operated the branch resigning, the premises were withdrawn for Post Office use on 24 August. One Stop on Market Street, where the branch was based, has also now closed.

As I set out in previous posts regarding the Post Office (https://www.georgefreeman.co.uk/content/wymondham-post-office), after being contacted by a number of concerned constituents I wrote to the Post Office Ltd asking for an explanation as to the reason for the closure and assurances that alternative premises would be found. A copy of the letter can be viewed below.

After following this up, I have now been provided with a further update. The Post Office Ltd have apologised for the inconvenience caused by the temporary closure of the branch, and have reiterated that they are committed to restoring a Post Office in Wymondham’s town centre. They have also confirmed that they have been approached by two potential applicants to take over the Post Office and are currently exploring the opportunity with them.

They also continue to advertise the opportunity on their 'Run a Post Office' website. I would encourage any business that might be interested in taking on the branch to contact them to discuss the opportunity further. More information can be found here: https://runapostoffice.co.uk/home/result/show/wymondham-post-office-wymondham-nr18-0aj

I have also been informed of plans of the possibility of the Post Office running a temporary mobile service until a new permanent premises is found. As soon as Post Office officials provide any confirmed plans in relation to this, as well as any further update, I will endeavour to share this on my website and social media platforms.

Rest assured, I shall continue to monitor this issue closely.
