Ely North Rail Junction - Update

4th July 2018

Unlocking the true economic potential of Norfolk (and the East), and ensuring that commuters have the rail services they need to travel and get to work, have been two of my key missions since becoming an MP back in 2010.

That’s why I have been working hard with other Norfolk, Suffolk and Cambridgeshire MPs to secure the necessary funding for improvements to Ely North Rail Junction, and bring about these essential works as soon as possible.

Today, I attended a meeting with the Chancellor, along with a number of my fellow MPs in the East and Mayor James Palmer of the Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Combined Authority, to discuss the eastern region’s Budget bid and to, specifically, highlight why improving Ely North Junction is so important.

By improving the Ely North Junction, more trains will be able to run between Norwich and Cambridge, as well as King’s Lynn and London, much more frequently – bringing benefits to businesses and commuters across Norfolk, and helping to attract further investment into the likes of the offshore energy industry, Stansted Airport and the Norwich Research Park.

I remain committed to campaigning for the funding required to bring about these improvements, and I shall provide additional updates as more and more progress is made.
