Mid Norfolk Railway

The Mid Norfolk Railway holds special importance to so many from our part of Norfolk, and beyond.

That’s why I have long been a major supporter of all efforts to enhance it and why, earlier this summer, I wrote a letter of support for their application to the EU for funding to help them build a new shed at their Dereham headquarters.

I am, therefore, delighted to hear the news that they have been awarded £100,000 – which amounts to 80% of the total costs of the project’s construction. The remaining £40,000 required will come from donations made by the Railway’s visitors and members.

It is expected that the new shed will be completed by December, with up to eight jobs being created over the coming years, as well as the opportunity to offer a number of apprenticeships in traditional skills.

This is great news, and another sign of the fantastic progress being made by this valuable local asset
