The Royal Norfolk Show was a great chance to once again draw attention to the A47 Alliance’s ongoing ‘Just Dual It!’ Campaign.

While we can be very proud of the fact that we have already secured £300million to upgrade parts of the A47, it is imperative that we now get the rest dualled as soon as possible to boost safety and ensure that Norfolk has the 21st Century transport system it requires to fully unlock its economic potential.

As we sadly saw last week, and as Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Combined Authority Mayor James Palmer has made clear, the tragic accident on the A47 near Peterborough, in which two people lost their lives and several others were injured, has again highlighted the urgent need to get the A47 fully dualled.

With 180 serious accidents on the A47 between 2010 and 2015, the road is clearly lethal – and that’s why I am firmly committed to continuing to work with the A47 Alliance, EDP, local communities and my fellow MPs to drive forward this cross-county campaign in the months ahead.
