Watton Post Office - Update

I was deeply concerned to hear the news of the temporary closure of the Watton branch of the Post Office. A town of Watton’s size, with further growth to come, absolutely needs a permanent branch that can offer the services that so many rely on – especially the vulnerable and the elderly.

That’s why I wrote to Post Office Ltd to find out the reasons why the current branch has had to close, what efforts are being pursued to return Post Office services to the town and the predicted timescale of this temporary closure.

I have been informed that the current branch has had to close due to the premises at which it was being based being withdrawn from Post Office Ltd at short notice. Post Office Ltd have, however, assured me that they appreciate the importance of a branch in the town, and explained that they are actively talking to other businesses in the town to see if they would be happy to host a counter service for customers.

While no definite timescale can be provided, Post Office Ltd very much hope to have normal services in place as soon as possible – and I would encourage any business that might be interested in taking on the Watton branch of the Post Office to contact them to discuss the opportunity in further depth.

Rest assured, I shall continue to monitor this issue closely.
