Over the past twelve months, we have seen far too many accidents, including over a dozen fatalities, on the A47 – between Lowestoft in the East and the A1 to the West. Unfortunately, several of those accidents have been on the section that passes through my constituency – and of particular local concern has been the dangerous A47 Draytonhall Lane Junction near Dereham, along with the stretch leading up to it from Scarning.

That’s why, following the A47 Alliance meeting at County Hall on Friday, I arranged for officials from Highways England to come over to Dereham for a meeting to explore what can be done to improve safety at this awful accident ‘black-spot’.

Local district and county councillors, as well as representatives of Dereham Town Council and Scarning Parish Council, joined me in the meeting with Highways England and we discussed a number of measures that could potentially be taken to boost safety at this location – in addition to the recent works that have already been carried out.

I look forward to continuing the conversation in the weeks and months ahead to ensure that this junction is made as safe as possible.
