I welcome the news that a new community fridge has been installed in Dereham by Breckland District Council.

The fridge is located in the Green Pastures bookstore on the High Street, and is an easy way for local businesses to donate food that has past its sell-by date, but is still within its use-by date. The service is completely free of charge to the public.

Breckland has already installed similar community fridges in Watton, Thetford and Swaffham (with the Watton one collecting and distributing around 650kg of food within their first two months of operation, and it is now looking to install a fridge in Attleborough. If YOU know of a local business in Attleborough who might be interested in hosting the fridge, please do encourage them to get in touch with Breckland.

This is a fantastic initiative aimed at reducing food waste in our area, and I look forward to seeing it go from strength to strength.
