Having been actively working with Dereham councillors and residents concerned about Orbit Home’s proposed application for up to 284 homes on land off Greenfields Road, I have been well aware of local concerns that the application offered inadequate provision of Outdoor Playing Space for a development of its size – and, therefore, was in breach of Breckland’s adopted DC11 policy.

That’s why I am delighted that Dereham Town Council’s formal complaint to Breckland Council about the advice Capita has been giving on DC11 has been proved correct. This is a victory for common sense, and a victory for the children and families of Dereham.

Outdoor Playing Space is key to the health and social wellbeing of our communities, and it is imperative that developers fulfil the requirements to provide sufficient amounts when they wish to build new developments. Without such spaces, new housing will not be sustainable in the long term

I am thrilled that the voices of the local community have been heard.
