Norwich Western Link - Consultation

For too long we have seen development in Norfolk without the necessary infrastructure. However, long term infrastructure needs to be delivered right – planned and developed thoroughly in a way that unlocks the benefits it can provide while also respecting the environment and supporting evolving 21st century priorities. This is key to our vibrant future economy.

These aren’t easy pay-offs. But with good community consultation, transparency and leadership from elected local MPs and Cllrs we should be able to get it right and leave our beloved county better than we found it.

That’s why I want to take the opportunity to highlight the ongoing Norwich Western Link Pre-Planning Application Public Consultation – which is running until 9th October.

Norfolk County Council are consulting on the design of the road and its structure, including the proposed viaduct; environmental mitigation and enhancement measures; and traffic mitigation measures on the existing road network – amongst a number of other topics.

To view the proposals (as well as receive an update on the Local Access Consultation conducted in 2020), please visit: www.norfolk.gov.uk/nwl

Four in-person consultation events will be taking place too – with the first at Barnham Broom Village Hall on Friday 2nd September (12noon-8pm).

Paper copies of the consultation brochure can be obtained by emailing nwlconsultation@norfolk.gov.uk or phoning 0344 800 8020 and providing your postal address.

To respond to the consultation, people can:

  • Complete the consultation questionnaire online via www.norfolk.gov.uk/nwl
  • Complete a paper copy of the consultation questionnaire and post it to: Freepost Plus RTCL-XSTTJZSK, Norfolk County Council, County Hall, Martineau Lane, Norwich, NR1 2DH
  • Email comments to nwlconsultation@norfolk.gov.uk
  • Write to: Freepost Plus RTCL-XSTT-JZSK, Norfolk County Council, County Hall, Martineau Lane, Norwich, NR1 2DH

This is the fourth consultation on the NWL and, given the stage the proposals are now out, shares the most information on the likely form the NWL will take if granted permission.

Having followed the project’s progress closely, visited the chosen route for the new road and engaged with local councillors, officials, landowners and, most importantly, dozens of constituents on this matter, I know there are strong views on all sides of the debate.

That’s why it is vital that those with views on the proposals (positive or negative) take the time to submit their feedback.

If YOU are yet to take a look at NCC’s proposals, please do have a read through and share your thoughts before the deadline.
