A47 Alliance – Update

The dualling of the A47 continues to be one of my central missions as an MP, and that’s why I was pleased to be involved with the latest A47 Alliance meeting this past Friday.

Receiving an update on progress from National Highways, all involved took the opportunity again to stress the urgency of getting on and delivering the Roads Investment Strategy 1 (RIS1) improvements that received a £300 million funding commitment back way in 2014 (which include the crucial North Tuddenham-Easton dualling works). We are resolute in our stance that there cannot be any further slippage, highlighting that, had those works been completed even five years ago, our region would have generated £500 million more for UK plc than it currently has.

We also heard more about the next Roads Investment Strategy period (RIS3) and, together, made the strong case to National Highways that previous delays to the RIS1 improvements must not be allowed to detract from the need for our region to secure funds for further A47 improvements in this latest funding round – especially for the horrendously dangerous Acle Straight.

Rest assured, I remain firmly committed to working with my fellow parliamentary colleagues and the vitally important A47 Alliance to make that same case to the Department for Transport as we look to secure the funds required to deliver the next round of improvements that will boost safety on this key transport artery and unlock enormous economic prosperity for our local communities.
