East Anglian Infrastructure

For decades, successive governments have underfunded our transport network here in the East – which is why one of my central missions as an MP has been the improvement of our transport infrastructure in this region, and why I so greatly welcomed the Prime Minister and Government’s commitment to “levelling-up” the places that have for too long been “left-behind”.

It isn’t just the North that needs levelling-up. Marginalised areas of rural and coastal poverty in the East need investment too. To achieve this, the East will need to speak with one voice.

That’s why I was delighted to meet with the teams at Transport East and Eastern Powerhouse yesterday to hear more about their work and learn what more I can do to support their work on a number of key East Anglian infrastructure projects (such as Ely North Junction – a crucial strategic location that, if improved, could unlock half-hourly trains between Norwich-Cambridge, and so much more) that would unlock substantial growth in our region – spreading prosperity and opportunities to our towns and villages.

I remain firmly committed to this work and will continue to provide updates in the weeks and months ahead.
