Cost of Living

“The global price rises in oil & gas is hitting rural households & communities especially hard. Here in Norfolk many of us don’t have access to the gas network & rely on heating oil, and still have to rely on petrol cars for everyday journeys.

“High energy prices also hit all our public services with our rural schools, GP surgeries & care homes spending more on energy.

“As with rural broadband & public transport, energy costs hit low income rural areas hardest & represent a hidden “Rural Tax” holding us back. That’s why I’ve long called for a Rural Cost of Living Allowance”.

I recently gave the above quote to the EDP as part of their article on rising fuel and oil costs. The full article can be viewed here.
