I was pleased to secure and lead my recent debate in Parliament to highlight the important issues raised of major energy companies seeking to locate major infrastructure in Norfolk and Suffolk – in particular, Vattenfall UK’s Norfolk Vanguard Offshore Windfarm.

While I am a major advocate for offshore renewable energy, it is clear that with at least another 10 offshore wind farm projects on the way we need a proper strategic plan for the necessary infrastructure to connect them all to the National Grid onshore to maximise efficiency, reduce waste and cost, and avoid unnecessary landscape, environmental and economic disruption across our county.

I was delighted to read this morning’s double page spread in the EDP in which it talks to local communities who will be impacted by such infrastructure, and highlights their campaign to raise awareness for developers to use an Offshore Ring Main, which would take away the need for individual substations and cable corridors.

The EDP’s full article can be viewed here.
