2415 - Medical Records: Data Protection (Answered)

Mr Roger Godsiff
To ask the Secretary of State for Health, whether it is his policy that opt-outs from care.data will apply to all patients and all flows of data from GP records for all purposes other than the delivery of direct care, regardless of which NHS body or other organisation such data is intended to go to.

George Freeman

Patients can object to their identifiable information leaving their general practitioner (GP) practice for purposes beyond their direct care. If a patient objects, it will prevent identifiable information relating to them from being shared outside of their GP practice for purposes beyond direct care, except in special circumstances allowed by law, such as when there is a public health emergency.
